If there were one program that worked, only that company would be selling software.  You need a combination of programs that have the synergistic effect of a overlapping field of fire on the bad guys. If you don’t  immunize in time bring your system to Computer King  where we can remove virus’s and professional add the free virus programs for a low price fixed Price of $120.00. We excel in fast  and safe service.

1.0   Quick Startup Ver.  By Glary  (FREE)

Quick Startup provides the tools for speeding up a computer by singling out slow-moving startup programs. With a basic setup and impressive results, this program will certainly make a difference.

The program's interface was incredibly simple to operate, housing its few commands on a single, intuitive screen. Quick Startup listed every program that starts running when we turned our computer on. With each, we were given a simple one-click option for delaying it. The programs were given a simple rating based on how slow they moved and this was our guide for delaying them. Once restarted, we noticed an increase in speed and that the sluggish programs waited a few minutes after startup to begin. The program provided a helpful feature that managed all our scheduled tasks, such as updates and virus scans. We were able to customize this and presumably increase speed ensuring no two ran at the same time. Overall, the program was simple enough for novices to understand, but provided results that all level of user could appreciate.

2.0   Microsoft Security Essentials  (FREE) Ver. 2.1.1116.0

MSE Microsoft Security Essentials is used by Knox County Schools and a host of others in Knoxville. Microsoft Security Essentials 2 will protect you, and it will generally do it well. Under the clean and uncluttered interface, Security Essentials wraps up antivirus and antispyware engines, rootkit protection, and real-time detection courtesy of Microsoft SpyNet, the unfortunately named cloud-based service that anonymously compares file behavior across computers running various Microsoft operating systems. The Update pane manages the definition file updates, with a large action button, and History provides access to a spreadsheet-style list of All detection items, your Quarantine, and items you've Allowed to run. Although it's a basic layout, this no-frills approach to security has proven appealing to people who are overwhelmed by more detailed security choices. New in version 2 is integration with Internet Explorer so that downloads get scanned, and Windows firewall hooks so that your personal security net is tighter.

3.0  Auslogics Disk Defrag Choose (FREE)

Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and sometimes to system failures. Microsoft Defrags. can take up to three hours. Auslogics defrag. can be as short as 30 seconds when done everyday. There is a way to get efficient system operation. Think of a library where everything is in a sorted order. Along comes Microsoft with a box of books (Updates). If you don’t immediately move the books from the update box to the stacks in the library, you will be fragmented and have to do double work. When you want to access a book you will have to look in the library’s stacks and in the box of books. The longer you wait and don’t optimize the file system, the slower your system will go!

Disk Defrag will speed up your computer by optimizing file system. It can defragment files, consolidate free space and move system files to the faster part of the disk. With Disk Defrag you will get the maximum out of your hard drive performance. It is supplied with a powerful engine and smart algorithms which allow Disk Defrag to run much faster than similar tools. And with its comprehensive reports you will always be aware of what have been done. Disk Defrag features fast and safe defragmentation of the disk drives; optimization of clusters' structure and file system for even better disk performance.

4.0  Clean  Tempoary Files by Compu-Docs.

As you are browsing the internet, you are downloading compressed files and decompressing them in a Temporary file location.  Windows pretends that you doing “dial-up”   internet instead of high speed broadband internet.  What this means is that every time you request CNN for instance, Windows first checks the TEMPFILE to see if it already has it so that windows doesn’t have to load it again.  For the clueless in computing this results in a large number of temporary files accumulating on your computer. The ever increasing megabytes of  TEMPFILES wastes hard drive space and progressively slows your internet browsing to a crawl as it must check the TEMPFILES before accessing the site you desire.

Another plus of running this fast program is that many virus programs come via your TEMPFILE. Cleaning the TEMPFILE  every day keeps the virus intruders at bay. Ladies clean their food preparation area in the Kitchen to prevent speading  salmonella etc. and other germs. Same idea here.  Clicking on an icon, to cleanup the temporary files in a matter of seconds. The first time you run the program, it may take up to 10 minutes to cleanup your temp files. Recommendation : Get in the  habit of running this program before you cut off your computer.

5.0  Russian Virus Removal -- Malware Bytes VER. 1.75.0

Malwarebytes is a site dedicated to fighting malware. This program came to our attention as it seemed to fight the Russian virus. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective freeware antimalware tool. It's a relatively speedy malware remover, with the quick scan taking about 8 minutes even with other high-resource programs running. The heuristics engine proved on multiple computers during empirical testing that it was capable of determining the difference between false positives and dangerous apps. We love this product. The app has some nice features rolled in, too. It supports multiple drive, scanning including networked drives, context menu options including a scan-on-demand for individual files, and the FileAssassin option under the More Tools section for removing locked files.

6.0    Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.0 (FREE)

This Spybot - Search & Destroy has been in the antispyware game for a long time offering features we've come to expect in the best apps in the category. The program checks your system against a comprehensive database of adware and other system invaders. Scan results now appear arranged by groups in a tree, and a sliding panel lets you instantly view information about a selected item to help you decide whether to kill it or not. The Immunize feature blocks a plethora of uninvited Web-borne flotsam before it reaches your computer. Other useful tools, including Secure Shredder, complement the program's basic functionality for completely destroying files. Hosts File blocks adware servers from your computer.

This is a complimentary program that plays well with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malaware Bytes.

7.0  Slim Cleaner (FREE) Edition

SlimCleaner is a free utility that cleans, optimizes, repairs, and updates your PC based on the latest threats and issues. Antivirus programs have been doing that for years. But SlimCleaner pioneered the use of Cloud-based reporting and actual user feedback in designing its system cleaning and optimizing tools. SlimCleaner's unique color-coded Community Ratings system can help you decide which settings, programs, and processes are the best choice for your system by showing you at a glance what's safe, what's suspicious, and what's gotta go. It includes some useful disk tools as well as easy access to many of the quick fixes scattered throughout Windows. SlimCleaner can uninstall programs, too. But its main purpose is to use real-world analysis and feedback to help you keep your PC clean, lean, and safe.

8.0    SECUNIA  Personal Software Inspector  (Free)

Each program on your computer has a version number and because humans make programs there are the inevitable problems that require patches. This results in defective programs, insecure programs or programs that can be exploited by the bad guys. The manufacture uses a version number to keep up with patches. Not only does Secunia Personal Software Inspector provide extensive details on the software installed on your computer, it also gives you direct links to update programs that are older and potentially not secure. This is the place on the net to know what version your software is. A high school system north of us did not patch one program and they wound up disinfecting 4000 computers. This program is free, it works in the background and it is complementary to Microsofts’ update system. If you have 200 programs on your system and one is Insecure or an End-of-life proram with no support , then and a virus exploit will eventually get you. Secunia is the answer. Its free for personal use. Commercial concerns pay and can do more.

Secunia provides basic information about the installed program statuses, with a chart to gauge their security over time and a simplified listing of any errors. Clicking on an error leads you through the proprietary Easy-to-Patch program update process, which automatically excludes more challenging updates. The Advanced layout tab exposes more details and more updates. It also checks your Microsoft XML, your Adobe Flash player installation, and others programs, looking for mission-critical holes and their respective updates. Installed programs get flagged as Patched, End-of-Life, and Insecure, with the most recent reported threat noted with a colored bar and a mouse-over label on the right column.

3.0  Libra Office 4 (FREE)

Ever wish you didn’t have to borrow somebody’s Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office?  Well booby you can have it all in Libraoffice Generic Word, Excell and Powerpoint for FREE.  This is a generic open source program used by millions of people around the world and it works pretty darn good. is both an open-source product and a project. The product is a multiplatform office productivity suite. It includes desktop applications such as a word processor, a spreadsheet program, a presentation manager, and a drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to those of other office suites. also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office. A credible rival to MS Office, includes powerful applications for making text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, diagrams, and databases, as well as HTML and XML documents. Not only does it let you edit basic documents, such as letters and faxes, it also handles equations and complex and multipart documents with bibliographies, reference tables, and indexes.

The interface is similar to that of MS Office, and even advanced Office users will find almost everything they're used to: templates, collaborative features (versions, recording changes), macros, and even a programming language. OOo, as it's known, lets you open and save documents in formats as diverse as MS Office formats, PDF, HTML, and XML. It can also import files from those formats, as well as WordPerfect and others. However, it normally saves files in the open-standard Oasis OpenDocument XML format, for maximum compatibility with other applications.

The latest versions of OpenOffice have seen a spurt of growth in the extensions available for the program. These include templates for professional writers, an export tool for bidirectional functionality with Google Docs, blog publishing, and others. Blog publishing assistance especially strikes us as a natural area for word processing to grow toward.

4.0   Google Chrome Ver.  16.0 (Free)

Competitiveness, thy name is Chrome. Google's browser is one of the fastest and most standards-compliant browsers available. It lacks some of the fine-tuning you'll find in Firefox, but from the minimalist interface to support for future-Web tech like Native Client and HTML5, the browser is a must.  Google Chrome continues to mature from a lightweight and fast browsing alternative into an innovative browser on the precipice of a potential browsing revolution with the just-released Chrome OS. The browser that people can use today, Chrome 16, offers highly competitive features, including synchronization, autofill, and standards compliance, and maintains Google's reputation for building one of the fastest browsers available.

5.0   VLC Media Player 1.11.1 (Free)

VLC Media Player is a long-time open-source favorite at UT, and the latest version is also the first to be out of beta development. It's not the only option for free video playback, but it's one of the best, and the feature updates in version 1 make it well worth the upgrade.

Users can now get frame-by-frame advancement, granular speed controls allowing for on-the-fly slower or faster playback, and live recording of streaming video. The toolbars are fully customizable, so you can have only the buttons you need in the interface, there's AirTunes streaming, and there's better integration in Gtk environments. Along with the improvements, VLC continues to offer robust support for a wide range of video and audio formats, including OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, HD codecs like AES3, Raw Dirac, and even support for playing back zipped files.

The default interface is still a stripped down player that belies VLC's functionality and features. Skinning can fix that quickly, but behavior can still be a bit unpredictable depending on the quality of the skin. VLC's open-source foundation and community ensures that it evolves quickly and often, with new features and fixes released frequently. Overall, VLC Media Player is a must-have application for its ability to open just about any type of video file you throw at it.

6.0           CDBurnerXP  Ver.  4.4 (Free)

You got a used machine and there is no way to burn your CD’s without buying new software. If you want to burn a CD without reading a manual this program is one you need.   VLC Media Player is a long-time open-source favorite, and the latest version is also the first to be out of beta development. It's not the only option for free video playback, but it's one of the best, and the feature updates in version 1 make it well worth the upgrade. 7.0 Ghostery  Version 2.62.2  (Free)

As much as we may like to pretend otherwise, there are lots of people--or more accurately, companies--tracking our every move on the Internet. Most of the time the information that's being collected is for marketing purposes, not malicious ones, but even that can be a bit creepy. Ghostery is an unobtrusive add-on for Firefox that shows users exactly which trackers are present on a given Web page, making it much easier to control who's gathering information about you. Internet Explorer is not as security conscious of security as Firefox but the IE Version is limited but helps.  The program's interface is quite user-friendly, with the add-on appearing as a small Pac-Man-style ghost in Firefox's status tray. When Ghostery detects information-gathering scripts on a Web page, a link appears that shows the number of trackers found. Clicking on this link provides the name of each tracker and links to Web pages with more information about the companies in question, including descriptions and popularity rankings. Ghostery can also optionally show an alert bubble in the upper right corner of a Web page that lists the trackers that have been found. The program's interface makes it easy to block each individual tracker if desired, ensuring that information about your Internet usage isn't going to anyone you don't trust. Overall, we found Ghostery to be both unobtrusive and quite informative, and we recommend it to those who are concerned about keeping their Web surfing private. Ghostery is free. Ghostery installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

8.0  Download Antivirus Programs Removal Tools

Many programs such as AVG, Mcafee, Norton Etc are very complex and are not removed correctly by the manufacturer’s removal programs. Since the normal removal tools are limited it is necessary to get a special removal package that does a thorough job. This site looks to have good programs.

INTERNET  ATTACKS  by Steve Dendrinos Jr.

Internet Users are currently being terrorized by a variety of people. Think of someone on the international scene who has a gripe with the United State and then add the crazy computer geek who wants to show off, this results in attacks on your system.  These nasties are now attacking Microsoft's operating systems such as Windows 98, XP, Vista, Windows 7  etc. New viruses are being generated at an ever increasing rate and complexity.  The new threat is Spy Software.  Spyware slows down your computer and watches what you are doing. You may not see it, but its there, lurking in your computer. A recent study sanctioned by the US Government found SPYWARE on 80% of 1500 computers that were examined. What it's doing is tracking your activity on the internet and reporting it to advertisers, who could then bombard you with pop-up ads for items related to what you've been looking at on the web.   Please note: even if you bought a brand new Dell yesterday, there is no guarantee that you won't be a victim tomorrow.  It takes an average of only 20 minutes with no protection to get infected.  At this point it is not a warranty problem and Dell can't help you!  COMPUTER KING REPAIRS VIRUS PROBLEMS.

 McAfee Specialized Utilities -AVERT Stinger

Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.  Ditto for stinger.

Norton Specialized Virus Removal Tools

Malicious Code has become increasingly complex and infections involve more system elements than ever before. Symantec Security Response has developed tools to automatically conduct what would often amount to extensive and tedious manual removal tasks. If your system has become infected, the tools listed below should aid you in repairing the damage. Ditto Symantec.

Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software—including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom—and helps remove any infection found. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed.

Kapersky  Specialized Virus Removal Tools

There are some viruses that your anti virus program can find, but cannot remove. This is where the specialized antivirus Utilities comes in.  To use these you have to know what you’re doing, have delusions of competency or be  really desperate.

SECTION B   Basic Security For Wireless Routers
In only 7 years  51% of us have moved from dial up telephone  internet  56 kilobaud to  broadband Comcast type cable  which is now  74000 Kilobaud speed.  The mandate from congress is that in the year 2006 we will have speeds of  100,000 Kilobaud.
The computer access by then  will be by cable, Phone line, Power Line and Wireless.
Many people now  have a cable connection (Comcast or Bellsouth DSL) and are adding a Personal Wireless Router to their system. This allows them to put computers in any part of the house without cables i.e.  wireless.  There is one problem !  Most pilgrims  are not reading the instructions,  but are still getting the wireless router  to work anyway. They are not aware in many cases that they are sharing their wireless connection for 200 -700 ft in every direction with other people.  This means that  your neighbor can access your computer.
WATE-TV CHANNEL 6  Asked us for steps  to  make wireless computing safe. Below there is a a set of instructions from Computer King  for  making your wireless connection secure.

Internet Explorer Too Dangerous To Keep Using
As time went on and open-source Mozilla matured, I started using Mozilla as my main Linux Web browser and as my secondary Windows browser. This past Friday, though, I started installing Firefox, the browser-only side of Mozilla, on every one of my production Windows machines.   Why? Because Internet Explorer, like Outlook, has finally become, to my mind, a permanent security hole that masquerades as a useful application.   Strong words? Have you really thought about this latest exploit? It could hit every Internet Explorer (IE) browser that merely visited any page served by an infected Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Server).   No anti-virus program would stop it, no firewall would slow it down and no shipping IE security patch would even notice it.

Microsoft Releases Flurry Of Patches
Microsoft Corp. yesterday released an unusually large number of software security updates to fix flaws in its products, some of which could be exploited to remotely take over computers running the Windows operating system.  The free updates, available at Microsoft's Windows Update Web site, are designed to fix at least 21 vulnerabilities, several of which reside on nearly every version of the Windows operating system and affect hundreds of millions of computers.  Suggestion : Click here:

Uban legends  cover everything from free money from Microsoft to Alligators in your sewer.  This is a quick way to get the real skinny .  Senior citizens seem to be targeted for scams.    Welcome to your corner of urban legends sanity on the World Wide Web! Named by Time magazine in March 2002 and again in June 2003 as one of the 50 Best Web Sites, contains thousands of articles about urban legends, Internet lore, odd news stories, strange facts, common misconceptions, superstitions, unusual word origins, and little-known yet fascinating tidbits of history.

This is a dangerous time in computing and it is nice to be able to check out a magazine that has been helpful to first timers as well old timers.  They have New, Reviews , Downloads  and discussion groups.  If they alert you to a virus, believe it.  Really a great site for everyone.

There are a ton of very useful programs that could make your life easier and more efficient.  The problem is to find a site you can trust. PC MAGAZINE  is such a site.  Many of  my more useful programs came from this site back when they were only available on CD.  You young whippersnappers have it made. Two clicks of a mouse at the right site and you get great software.  Try looking at this site from time to time. Since it's a magazine they have to be current, topical  and innovative to hold their audience.

I almost hate to point you to this site.  It has a long list of programs,  with reviews  by whoever  etc.   It does a good job of  giving a  description  of the program  but in  many cases  the programs  are ineffective.   For example, while they have SPYBOT and AD-AWARE  for removing spyware, there  many others  that are  only  a millimeter above spyware themselves.   On the plus side, this site is fast  with a large variety of selections .

Most of the listings are well-known programs, but there are some hard-to-find goodies to be discovered. GET SPYBOT HERE !

There may be someone more paranoid than the the Department of Energy on viruses, but I doubt it.  Since I live in the vicinity of a possible nuclear catastrophe, I'm glad of their vigilance. They have a pretty good section on tools, hoaxes, and viruses.   Considering that a virus attacked many mainframe servers  in the US in only 13 minutes, this vigilance should not be taken lightly.  If your a  IS manager wantabe  this site is for you.

Serenity Virtual Station

One of the first commercial implementations of virtual machines goes back to the IBM 370 mainframe computers. A virtual machine operating system was written so programs developed for the older IBM 360 products could still be run on the new, improved IBM 370 machines. This early use of virtual machines demonstrates some key user benefits which are still important and available to users, today! The user's investment in their software was protected because the virtual machine extended the useful life of the application. Users derived the benefit of the new and powerful hardware while avoiding the expenses associated with migrating software.  Serenity Virtual Station enables you to run "virtual personal computers" on your PC. By creating these virtual machines, users can run multiple copies operating systems at the same time. For example, a user could run Microsoft Windows XP (r), a copy of Microsoft NT4, and even a copy of IBM's OS/2 on a PC which is "running Linux".

This an alternative answer to Microsoft Windows Operating systems .   CodeWeavers has written software that will allow you to run selected Microsoft programs such as office on your Linux machine. The benefit to Linux users is that the original Office runs on a linux machine that is almost invunerable to virus/Spyware problems.

Google Toolbar for Netscape 7.0 and above
Mozilla Development    MOZDEV.ORG has  version   0.7.06 which can be downloaded.    Press Install by that version 0.7.06  .By going back to  Here if your a doctor you can get a search engine  for PUBMED etc. The Googlebar project was initially created to address the widespread desire in the mozilla community for the Google toolbar to support Netscape 7/Mozilla, since many users of mozilla enjoy having all of Google's specialty searches in one convenient location. In the past, the Google toolbar was only available for IE on windows. While we are in no way affiliated with Google inc, our current release emulates all of the basic search functionality of the toolbar, allowing users to easily access almost all of Google's specialty searches (some of which are not   yet supported by the original Google toolbar!) from one convenient toolbar.

LITEPC  has two products "98 LITE" and "2000XP LITE" . These programs allow the user to eliminate a lot of microsoft overhead.  Having the ability to configure your windows 98 gets you more performance, a more stable operating system. You can add and remove options at the click of a mouse.  Many LINUX users are using VMSWARE  to host windows98 and windowsXP . Using the configuration programs to skinny down Win98  allows them to run Windows 98 at practically regular speed but on a Stable  Linux Platform.  Check it out.

Speedsys is a  sysinfo / benchmark program. This a very small  tightly coded Russian Origin Program of pure genius. Designed for detection of hardware, checking  quality, states of working and benchmarks of the computer components. Speedsys can be used for checking efficiency to optimization, overclocking, checking CD disks and others. Platform: DOS 5.0+  Works with: Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP . This 100K program does a lot  due to tight coding. It's a great memory checker, Checks speed of CD, gives you more information  that most commercial programs and the best part is its free. Not for Newbies.
